Dr. McCormick does not directly bill insurance companies for neuropsychological assessment; instead, clients pursuing neuropsychological assessment pay “out-of-pocket.” However, upon request, Dr. McCormick will furnish an itemized receipt – including procedure and diagnostic codes – for clients to submit to their insurance companies for possible reimbursement of some of the costs. Clients should recognize that insurance companies generally do not consider educational testing “medically necessary” and thus do not cover that aspect of testing. It is also important for clients to connect with their insurance company prior to the intake session, as many insurance plans require pre-authorization for services delivered by out-of-network providers.
